AI for T/I portal
This website has been created within the framework of an EELISA-supported collaborative activity (EELISA – 101124676 – Proposal application form – 5th EELISA Joint Call) focusing on the intersection of artificial intelligence and language mediation, with particular attention to translation and interpreting (T/I). The activity AI for Translation and Interpreting brought together experts from computer science and engineering, teachers, industry stakeholders, and students to explore how AI technologies can be integrated into T/I education and professional practice. The activity consisted of three interconnected parts. First, a two-day event was organised on 2-3 October 2026, including lectures, workshops (among them a student-focused hackathon), and panel discussions, providing a forum for exchange between AI specialists, T/I experts, and students. Second, as a follow-up to the event, partner institutions and students collaboratively developed teaching materials integrating AI tools into translation and interpreter training. Thirdly, this online methodology platform is designed to provide both students and teachers with valuable materials.
You are warmly encouraged to actively engage with the AI for T/I portal and contribute to its development and impact. Teachers and students who design a method or task and upload it to the virtual platform (see below) will be awarded with credentials. Likewise, teachers who integrate a task or activity from the platform into their training programme and provide a screenshot of the learning platform, along with a short reflective account of how the activity worked with their students, will be awarded with credentials. This section features recorded lectures from the AI for Translation and Interpreting conference, delivered by a diverse group of speakers including language-industry market players, academic researchers, and teachers. The lectures address key topics such as current market trends in the language industry, the evolving role of AI in translation and interpreting, and the challenges these developments pose for education and training. Together, these materials provide valuable resources that can be directly used for teaching and training purposes.
This section showcases student work developed during the activity. Students critically engaged with conference lectures and discussions by identifying key arguments for and against human involvement in AI-assisted multilingual communication, with particular attention to ethical, practical, and financial challenges. They worked in transdisciplinary groups to present and refine these arguments in a workshop, where they proposed and justified solutions in pitch presentations to industry representatives, while also experimenting with the design and testing of AI-based learning materials through innovative, feedback-oriented pedagogical approaches. The presentations offer valuable materials that can be readily integrated into teaching and training contexts
