FO-TO-SHOP master classes to continue at BME Centre for Modern Languages
The Centre for Interpreter and Translator Training (TFK) operating at BME’s Centre for Modern Languages continues its series of training courses offered for practising translators, interpreters and translator-interpreter trainers.
Our interactive courses, referred to as FO-TO-SHOP (FOrdító-Translator TOlmács-Interpreter WorkShop), not only work on developing participants’ skills; but are also excellent opportunities to build professional networks.
The next topic for autumn 2023:
Culture-specific words and expressions in translation and interpreting
Interpreters and translators are not only linguistic but also cultural mediators.
Did you know that when you speak another language,
- you see the world differently,
- you perceive time, space or even colours differently,
- you interpret the same content differently?
The course will give advice on what you can do
- to convey culture-specific expressions,
- to overcome the asymmetries between languages,
- to make implicit meaning explicit.
Successful linguistic mediation is not possible without preparing for these challenges and successfully overcoming them in the interpretation or translation process.
During this interactive presentation, we will discuss the difficulties arising from cultural differences and offer powerful techniques for overcoming them, with many linguistic examples.
The interactive workshop will be run by Judit Ringwald, interpreter and interpreter trainer
