Márta Fischer: Eurolects. A book presentation
You are cordially invited to a book presentation event organised within the framework of the #transpub series of the Translation Studies Section of the Hungarian Association of Applied Linguists and Language Teachers’ (MANYE).
One of the – lesser known – consequences of European integration is that a specific EU layer is emerging in languages with official status as a result of multilingual legislation, drafting and translation. Research has shown that this phenomenon goes beyond terminology, i.e. that the EU language variety can also be captured in terms of textual, phraseological, syntactic and morphological features. This is particularly true in the case of legal language where EU texts exhibit features that differ significantly from national (legal) traditions. The relevance of the Hungarian language is indisputable, yet there are only a few Hungarian papers published on the subject. This volume aims to contribute to filling this gap by exploring and systematising international and domestic research studies and by analysing in detail the basic concepts related to EU law and multilingualism, as well as to Translation Studies. Another ambitious aim set by the author of the volume is to establish the concept of Eurolect in the international literature and to provide a basis for domestic research and a professional discourse. The book therefore expects to arouse the interest not only of researchers, but also of national and EU officials, legal practitioners, as well as practising translators and terminologists.
